The May 1913 edition of Hardware Dealers’ Magazine featured the tool display of the Sharlow Brothers Co, New York City. The article started by stating how the average New Yorker is always in a terrific hurry.

“It’s a rush to business, rush the business, a rush to lunch, rush around town, rush home and even in his sleep he rushes, so he snores.”
The author goes on to explain how the Hardwareman needs to have a good window display when the rusher passes by. Clarence E. Cope was responsible for setting up the display. The article then describes all the tools appearing in the display, giving the passerby a fair idea of what is carried in stock. Finally, the back of the display is not built high, thereby permitting a view of the store’s interior.
Hardware Dealers’ Magazine featured this display in order to provide other hardware dealers with ideas for their stores. The original page from this magazine can be found here: Sharlow Brothers Tool Display.
